I’ve just updated the way that titles display on the site, especially cookbooks. This is partly for aesthetic reasons, the most visible being the new buttons on the page and the new layout of the main page for each book, but also to prepare for a couple of new features we’re quite excited about.

A very quick feature tweak. I’ve noticed that a few members had been adding recipes with no star ratings at all and deduced they were doing so in order to index them. So I’ve made this a new feature.

We’ve just added a new category for recipe reviews: Websites. Simply put, you can add favorite websites/food blogs to your bookshelf as if they were cookbooks, and then rate and review recipes from them.

We’ve just launched a new feature – connecting editions. This was inspired by LibraryThing’s ‘Combine & Separate’ feature, allowing members to make connections between multiple editions of the same title.

Cookbooker was built on a fairly standard LAMP platform. Since I have a day job, it was an evenings and weekends labour of love, and I taught myself PHP and MySQL programming using books and web resources.
