Buttermilk Fried Chicken from Ad Hoc at Home

All About Braising: The Art of Uncomplicated Cooking

By Molly Stevens
W.W. Norton & Co. - 2004

May 1st, 2010

One of my favorite books. I spend most of the winter cooking from it. This year, four different side dishes from this book graced our Thanksgiving table. While the recipes seem complicated at first glance, the length actually results in meticulous direction that produces extraordinary finished dishes. If there's one book to buy for the fall & winter - this is it.

The Craft of Baking: Cakes, Cookies, and Other Sweets with Ideas for Inventing Your Own

By Karen DeMasco, Mindy Fox
Clarkson Potter - 2009

April 3rd, 2010

One of the best books I own. I made every single dessert for Thanksgiving out of the book last year. Being a frequent patron at Locanda Verde, I picked up the book just as soon as it hit the shelves and haven't been disappointed yet. All the recipes are well-tested and have turned out beautifully.

The Foster's Market Cookbook: Favorite Recipes for Morning, Noon, and Night

By Sara Foster, Sarah Belk King, James Baigrie, Martha Stewart
Random House - 2002

May 1st, 2010 (edited 1st May 2010)

This was one of the first books that I ever cooked through the whole thing. Sara Foster was ahead of her time, concocting easy recipes that result in dishes that look as good as they touch. The brunch recipes are my standards whenever I have company.
