About me: I collect cookbooks and love to cook and try new recipes. I tested recipes for Leite's Culinaria for almost eight years. I learned to cook from many good southern cooks including my Mom, Dad, several Aunts and my Grandmothers. My children and husband also like to cook and try new foods and recipes. My son still lives with us but our daughter is married. She often visits to cook with me. We are adventuresome eaters willing to try new things.

Bourbon Roasted Pork Loin from Everyday Dorie: The Way I Cook

This was delicious. I know she says in the book not to use the good bourbon but all I had was Woodford Reserve so that's what I used. I marinated for about 8 hours in fridge. Loved the apples and onions... read more >

Asian Barbecued Chicken : page 116

We really enjoyed this chicken. Has great flavors with the rub and then the sauce put on the finished chicken. The grill enhances the rub flavors. I didn't care that much for the Asian cucumbers which go with this. Not enough vinegar and didn't really enjoy the sesame oil on them. Daughter said they were just ok for her. I will make the chicken again though. I did use thighs instead of whole chicken halves though.

I got some wonderful fresh corn in our market and this recipe was calling my name. My daughter and I loved it. It's simple - only two ingredients corn and bacon with a little salt and fresh ground black pepper, but oh so delicious. This is one of Claire Robinson's recipes. She's the host of 5 Ingredient Fix on the Food Network. In the magazine this recipe is included in the He Made She Made article. I can't want to try the other recipe using corn on the cob by Aaron Sanchez, Corn with Chile-Lime Butter.

Grilled Pierogies and Kielbasa : page 112

We made these for my daughter and I for supper when we grilled the guys a steak. This was delicious. I mistakenly bought the onion pierogies instead of the cheddar cheese ones called for so we sprinkled some cheddar over the finished dish. You could either use pork or turkey kielbasa and I got some Butterball turkey ones. I'd never grilled pierogies but this won't be the last time since we really enjoyed them. The sauce was wonderful tossed with the grilled kielbasa, pierogies and onions. My daughter cut the kielbasa into bite sized circles instead of the four pieces called for. This made it easier to eat. I took one photo before we sprinkled on some of the cheese and one after.
