About me: I collect cookbooks and love to cook and try new recipes. I tested recipes for Leite's Culinaria for almost eight years. I learned to cook from many good southern cooks including my Mom, Dad, several Aunts and my Grandmothers. My children and husband also like to cook and try new foods and recipes. My son still lives with us but our daughter is married. She often visits to cook with me. We are adventuresome eaters willing to try new things.

Bourbon Roasted Pork Loin from Everyday Dorie: The Way I Cook

This was delicious. I know she says in the book not to use the good bourbon but all I had was Woodford Reserve so that's what I used. I marinated for about 8 hours in fridge. Loved the apples and onions... read more >

Braised Green Beans : page 111

Son and I though this one was good but hubby didn't care for it. I like that the beans are cooked in chicken broth (I used low sodium), and garlic. When they're done a drizzle of olive oil and lemon juice gives it a bright refreshing taste. The thyme also lends a good taste.

Spicy-Sweet Glazed Shrimp : page 82

These take hardly any time on the grill. Only two ingredients in the glaze Siracha and honey but it packs a nice punch from the Siracha. I didn't even salt and pepper these and they were still loaded with flavor. I like the technique of putting the shrimp on two skewers for each person. Two makes the shrimp more stable and easier to get on and off the grill without loosing any of those little gems. Next time I think I would use a little less honey though as it's a tiny bit sweeter than I liked. Rest of family said they were great as is.
