About me: I collect cookbooks and love to cook and try new recipes. I tested recipes for Leite's Culinaria for almost eight years. I learned to cook from many good southern cooks including my Mom, Dad, several Aunts and my Grandmothers. My children and husband also like to cook and try new foods and recipes. My son still lives with us but our daughter is married. She often visits to cook with me. We are adventuresome eaters willing to try new things.

Bourbon Roasted Pork Loin from Everyday Dorie: The Way I Cook

This was delicious. I know she says in the book not to use the good bourbon but all I had was Woodford Reserve so that's what I used. I marinated for about 8 hours in fridge. Loved the apples and onions... read more >

Green Apple Sourdough Pancakes : page 136

My daughter invited me over last Sunday for breakfast and to watch Nigella Lawson's new show on the Food Network. She made these and they were delicious served with sausage links and syrup. She mixed up the batter the night before and added the apples just before frying up the pancakes just as suggested and they were outstanding. She made them with blueberries when blueberries were in season here in NC and her Dad ate some of those and he said they were great as well. Now that apples are in season I think I'll be making these often for Sunday breakfast.

Stir-Fries : page 75

This is a great recipe that can be customized to suit your taste. The article says you can make 11,375 stir fries. You can design your own stir-fry in 5 easy steps with this mix and match guide which leads to thousands of combos. The steps are to pick a protein, make the marinate, pick three cups of veggies, and then a sauce. The final step is preparing the stir-fry. My daughter and I made a chicken one with mixed veggies and a spicy sauce. It was delicious. I also got some steak to make hubby and I one this coming week and plan on either a brown sauce or oyster sauce. My daughter makes different combos of these stir fries often and has tried all five sauces and all the proteins except beef, which she doesn't eat. I plan on making more of these.

I'm editing this to say I did make the steak one with oyster sauce and hubby and I really enjoyed it. Hoping to make a shrimp one soon.
