Everyday Dorie: The Way I Cook
By Dorie Greenspan
Rux Martin/Houghton Mifflin Harcourt - 2018
This was delicious. I know she says in the book not to use the good bourbon but all I had was Woodford Reserve so that's what I used. I marinated for about 8 hours in fridge. Loved the apples and onions with the pork.

This was so good. A perfect fall meal. We ate it with some Bourbon Roast Pork with apples and onions and Sweet Potato Biscuits but it would have been delicious all on it's own. Daughter and I loved it.

While this was very good we thought the sauce lacked flavor. It needed some herbs. We added some fresh basil in our serving bowls. We also added some Parmesan. The meat balls were interesting with the addition of walnuts, and they did have herbs. I used fresh basil and thyme and dried oregano. i did omit the rosemary since son doesn't care for it.

I made a recipe and a half of this to feed my hungry family. I did omit the rosemary since couple members don't enjoy it and used baby bella mushrooms since we enjoy those more than white ones. I also got a little larger potatoes and cut most in quarters and some in half. Everything was delicious but the mushrooms with the olive oil and balsamic were our favorite part of the meal. I had too many ingredients to fit on one sheet pan so I used two and put veggies on one and the chicken on another.

Very good version of pimento cheese. I've made many different pimento cheese recipes and always use Dukes mayonnaise. I was afraid 3 tablespoons of mayo would make it to dry and it was a little but still a great pimento cheese.

Half Baked Harvest Cookbook: Recipes from My Barn in the Mountains
By Tieghan Gerard
Clarkson Potter - 2017
Made this cheese loaded mac and cheese for daughter's birthday. Delicious. The Ritz crackers was an interesting topping but delicious. I was a bit skeptical about mixing the butter and flour in the pot then adding milk and water to cook the macaroni in but it turned out delicious. I did have to keep stirring and scraping the pot to keep it from sticking during cooking though.

We made this one in the instant pot. So delicious and warming on a cool fall night. Loaded with veggies.

Made this cake for daughter's birthday. Since son in law doesn't enjoy cream cheese I used Joy the Baker's Salted Peanut Butter Frosting. Cake was moist and delicious.

Everyday Dorie: The Way I Cook
By Dorie Greenspan
Rux Martin/Houghton Mifflin Harcourt - 2018
My first recipe from Everyday Dorie, Herb-butter Chicken p. 123. So moist and delicious. My chicken was almost 6 1/2 pounds but was the smallest one I could find at my local market. I cooked for about an hour and half and it turned out perfect. My family and I almost devoured it.

Cravings: Hungry for More
By Chrissy Teigen, Adeena Sussman
Clarkson Potter - 2018
My family loves salt and vinegar potato chips me not so much but I did love these fries and I also enjoyed the ones I made from Nigella's last cookbook. Family wants these again.

This sandwich was amazing. I know I'll be making these again. Son doesn't like much cilantro but can stand a little, so he just added a few leaves on his. He said he could eat anything on a toasted baguette with mayo and Sriracha after trying this. We got the take and bake baguettes from Aldi which were perfect for this. Son couldn't stop snacking on the pickled veggies while we were making the sandwiches. Need to double the recipe for those next time. I made the quick pickles the day before and marinated my pork for about 4 hours.

This was a super tender French Dip due to the New York Strip. I was skeptical about the cheese dip but it was a tasty addition to a French dip sandwich.

Appetites: A Cookbook
By Anthony Bourdain, Laurie Woolever
Ecco - 2016
I've had my eye on this recipe since I first got the Appetites book, but it's just been too hot here to enjoy chili. I finally made it for our Sunday supper tonight and it was delicious but a bit spicy. I did use harissa instead of the tomato paste as suggested since I had some in the fridge. I had to order a jar of diced Hatch Green Chilies from Amazon, since I am unable to find them here.

Cravings: Hungry for More
By Chrissy Teigen, Adeena Sussman
Clarkson Potter - 2018
My daughter and I enjoyed this slaw. I did think it needed a pinch of salt after tasting so I added that. We're not big on mint so I omitted the mint.

I used thick cut black pepper bacon in this recipe. Son and I enjoyed the bacon and garlic in this. It was a nice accompaniment to the Cheesy Spicy Breakfast Hash p. 39 For some reason hubby didn't care for them.

These were really good. The broth cooked off so the potatoes got a nice crisp on them. Instead of the runny fried eggs I served it with the Garlic bacon scrambled eggs p. 25 also from this book. Made a delicious after work supper with some buttered toast.

I used mushroom broth instead of vegetable broth. The cayenne, although a small amount, gave it a nice little kick. This was a delicious version of clam chowder that hubby, son and I all enjoyed on a rainy night.

Dining In: Highly Cookable Recipes
By Alison Roman

Not my favorite banana bread but son-in-law loved it and daughter said good. The cocoa was a little overwhelming with the banana for my tastes.

Cravings: Hungry for More
By Chrissy Teigen, Adeena Sussman
Clarkson Potter - 2018
While this had a good flavor it was a bit overwhelming to me. It was probably my fault though since I used about a pound of broccoli instead of 2 pounds and should have halved the sauce. Also it was salty and most of the ingredients in the sauce were a little sodium heavy I should have just omitted the salt.

My jalapeno was super spicy but this was still very good. Son sliced the jalapeno really thin for me. He can stand more heat than I can and he really loved these. Hubby said make him a plain grilled cheese please. He used to love spicy food but some of his meds won't let him tolerate it much anymore. I made tomato soup to go with the sandwiches. I did use sourdough bread.

Son said that this spicy hot honey would be good on chicken nuggets too. Honey and red pepper flakes heated up then allowed to simmer and cooled back down.

Amazing! Son and I loved it. The chicken was good without the honey too but the spicy honey bumped up several notches.
I bought leg quarters and cut them into drums and thighs. I put it in a zip gallon bag and mixed up the marinade and put in a glass jar and put both in fridge last night. Son was supposed to pour marinade in chicken about 4 hours before I got home from work but he forgot so it only marinated for 30 minutes. I can't imagine it being any better but next time, and there will be a next time, I'll try again for the whole 4 hours to see if it makes a difference. I used panko for the dried bread crumbs.
I ate mine with mashed potatoes and green beans but son just ate chicken.

Turnip Greens & Tortillas: A Mexican Chef Spices Up the Southern Kitchen
By Eddie Hernandez, Susan Puckett
Rux Martin/Houghton Mifflin Harcourt - 2018
The gravy wasn't as spicy as I expected since you use a habanero in the tomato gravy. This was delicious and I served it as suggested with green beans and mashed potatoes. My family enjoyed it too.

They are delicious but very sweet. My family pretty much devoured them though. Great with milk or coffee.

Yummy but, I don't think I got my potatoes as done as I should have before adding to the foil packet, since they weren't done after 20 minutes in the oven. Also you really need paper thin carrots or they won't be done in 20 minutes either as I discovered the hard way. I didn't mind the firmer potatoes or carrots but had to cook hubby and sons longer. I didn't put carrots in either of their packets since they won't eat them cooked. I moved them to a plate before eating since I didn't want to accidentally eat any foil.

Took about an hour to cook but delicious. Had a lot of sauce left over and a couple meatballs. I froze it and it will add some more meat and maybe some mushrooms, and serve it over spaghetti for our supper one night next week. Son said the meatballs were even better than subway's.

My supper tonight Crispy-Coated Oven Roasted Sweet Potato Wedges. Crispy and delicious but soft in the middle. I actually like mine a little firmer in middle but the crispy makes up for the softness. Don't judge I dip mine in ketchup.

I was a little afraid of the sweet pickle relish in this one since son doesn't enjoy sweet relish but he said it was good in these. We also enjoyed the heat from the cayenne. This was like patty melt meets grilled cheese and it works.

Delicious with the Parmesan Minestrone. Instead of making the chili oil from the book I used some store hot chili oil.

Daughter and I loved this soup. The cup of parmesan really adds flavor. I used Ditalini since that's what I had on hand. I used more than called for since I had a little over a cup instead of the 2/3 called for and just dumped in what I had.

Delicious, quick and easy supper. I used shredded cheese instead of grated and they didn't get quite as crisp as I would have liked. Also they were a bit on the salty side. Next time I'd grate the cheese finer. We ended up eating the soup with grilled cheese sandwiches which was delicious.

I made seven balls instead of four, omitted the cilantro since hubs and son don't like. Also forgot to add more green onions for garnish but this still made a quick and easy supper. I did mix my ball ingredients the night before to make faster after work. I had a little trouble with my wonton strips sticking together even though I added a few at a time and stirred between additions.

This was hit at my house. I scooped out some potatoes for my son in law before adding the cream cheese since he isn't a fan. Never had beans in a beef stew but they were a nice addition. She says white so I used cannellini beans

This one has an unusual dressing for a taco salad and doesn't call for cheese. It uses Cool Ranch Doritos hence the name. Daughter and I love cheese and I've never had a taco that didn't contain cheese but it really works without the cheese and other ingredients. My daughter said she'd eat this with me again anytime I want to make it.

These were amazing. I added the sauteed arugula and onions to mine but put cheese instead on hubbys and sons. I used her tip for making the slow scrambled eggs on the same page and used some biscuit cut ham rounds instead of Canadian Bacon.

Loved these and easy to start in food processor. Then I used them to make the breakfast sandwiches on page 19

Appetites: A Cookbook
By Anthony Bourdain, Laurie Woolever
Ecco - 2016
This was a very good version of chicken salad. I made a double batch so I could share with my daughter for our lunches this week, mine at work and hers with her son who just turned 2. We both agreed delicious but next time I'll let up on the mayonnaise a bit. A little too much for our tastes.

Dining In: Highly Cookable Recipes
By Alison Roman
Clarkson Potter - 2017
Mussels are often hard to find here, but I lucked up and found a pound of precooked frozen ones at our local market for a very reasonable price. I added them in at the end just long enough to warm them up. I used tilapia for the fish. I couldn't find oil brined black olives, so I'd planned to sub some kalamata olives I had at home only to find they were spoiled, so I omitted them. We all enjoyed this one on a rainy Sat. night with toasted garlic bread for dipping.

Today from Dining In p. 230 I made Slow-roasted pork shoulder with garlic, citrus, and cilantro. I did omit the cilantro since some family members are not a big fan. This was a great project for a raining day since it takes some time to cook. I did overcook mine just a bit so didn't get lovely slices but it was delcious. Looking forward to sandwiches from the leftovers.

These are delicious as a snack on in other recipes.

Loved this raw corn salad. The torn croutons were delicious and I'll be making them again. I got a variety of small tomatoes of different colors to go in this dish. Loved the other ingredients in this one including the pistachios, red wine vinegar, Parmesan and seasonings.

Secrets of the Southern Table: A Food Lover's Tour of the Global South
By Virginia Willis
Houghton Mifflin Harcourt - 2018
Tonight as part of our supper I made Braised collards with Parmesan-tomato broth p. 35 from Virginia Willis Secrets of the Southern Table. I loved the broth in this one and could easily drink it. The collards were delicious too.

These were quick easy and delicious. A mixture of ground beef and sweet Italian sausage browned, scooped into a sub roll, topped with marinara sauce and sliced fresh mozzarella cheese. Toasted and devoured.

The pork chops were delicious. I had a pork loin I had cut into thicker sized chops and decided to use those instead of bone in chops. I browned in pan per authors instructions then instead of putting pan in oven I placed the chops on a baking sheet and continued with recipe. I doubled the recipe since there were 5 of us. The marinade gave a great flavor to the chops but none of us enjoyed the cooked down marinade as much on the chops after cooking. We decided a little of the cooked marinade went a long way.

So delicious. I've always enjoyed corn nuts but never thought to put them in a salad. Gave a nice crunch to the refreshing lime flavored corn and onions. I omitted the cilantro since neither hubby nor son enjoys it in any dish. I did my corn per her oven instructions instead of grill. We all thought this one was quiet good.

Made 1/2 recipe of Pressure Luck's Pesto Risotto today for lunch. My mascarpone had gone bad so I topped with Parmesan instead. Also I got distracted and didn't do a quick release (natural release 7). I was afraid it would be mushy but it was perfect and still had a tiny bit of bite just like I like it. Delicious!

Turnip Greens & Tortillas: A Mexican Chef Spices Up the Southern Kitchen
By Eddie Hernandez, Susan Puckett
Rux Martin/Houghton Mifflin Harcourt - 2018
This is an easy meal to make or as a side. It's actually listed in the breakfast section but I made it for a light supper. I cooked my potatoes and carrots just before doing my onions and andouille sausage. This would be a great use of leftover potatoes and carrots.
