Who knew garbanzo beans could be had fresh in fuzzy pods?
When at my local hispanic market, once I saw these, I knew I had to try them, and I forgot half the things on my list. Oh well - these are simply delicious! You sear them at high heat in a cast iron frying pan, charring the outer shells. The bean inside turns nice and creamy. Sprinkle on some chili powder, salt, and lime juice and you are ready to go.
The season for fresh garbanzo beans is said to be fleeting, so look for them now!

I've seen these in the store but have never known what to do with them. This sounds delicious!

It was very fun, and my kids just loved them. I think you could easily change up the spices - to suit individual tastes. I made mine pretty mild.
