Thanksgiving 101: Celebrate America's Favorite Holiday with America's Thanksgiving Expert

By Rick Rodgers
William Morrow Cookbooks - 2007

November 29th, 2009

We're on our 3rd copy of this book, which was originally published in 1998 and republished in its current edition in 2007. We've used it as our Thanksgiving bible every year since 1998 when it was first published.

Our entire Thanksgiving feast is based on recipes in this book. Even as we begin to get more creative with side dishes and leftovers, this book has recipes to fit the bill. At its heart, though, the recipes for turkey stock, the turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes and stuffing will please any tradaitionalist.

Rodgers has taught cooking classes for many years, specializing in turkey roasting and Thanksgiving classes. The book is filled with tips and tricks that make this more than a recipe book: prepare turkey stock in a crock pot overnight; make mashed potatoes a day ahead in a way that ensures they won't dry out; leftovers that go beyond (but do include!) turkey soup.

I think this is a great gift for a newlywed or couple moving into a new home where they will host Thanksgiving.
