About me: Almost vegetarian (I eat some fish and seafood, and all cheeses). Not a great cook but I like to eat, so I give it a go. I'm a big fan of simple, nutritionally balanced dishes with a lot of flavour, and I often come up with my own variations after trying any number of recipes. I'm not a fan of dinner parties and I don't tend to make anything special for guests unless they have food allergies or pet hates and can't eat what's cooking - home for me is somewhere to hang out rather than 'entertain'.

Potato: The Definitive Guide to Potatoes and Potato Cooking

Quick, simple, filling, fairly healthy, and cheap to make. A few changes to the cooking instructions: Chop the pototoes into small cubes for quicker cooking. Soften the onions first, then sweat the leeks for about a minute or two. Simmer until the potatoes are JUST done, and roughly mash with a potato masher. If you follow the recipe, the potatoes and leeks overcook and you end up with a sludgy, grey-looking soup, which doesn't taste quite as good and looks disgusting.

Fairly average when compared to other potato salad recipes in this book (and there are plenty to choose from), so I probably won't be making it again.

This is amazing, and can be made without the anchovies for strict vegetarians. I prefer curly parsley to flat leaf, but that's just me.
