This cookbook is one in a series of ethnic/regional cookbooks published in or about 1995/96 by Knopf. The book is a beautiful compendium of stories behind the Italian American dishes we savor. The recipes are true home cooked Italian comfort food. Each is very well explained, both from the historical and ingredients perspective. The sausage and peppers recipe is a crowd pleaser for simple gatherings, and is wonderful for the outdoor patio picnic.
Nancy Barr's recipes are recited by several other cookbooks, including One Potato, Two Potato.
You will rely upon this book again and again. It's a keeper!
