About me: Almost vegetarian (I eat some fish and seafood, and all cheeses). Not a great cook but I like to eat, so I give it a go. I'm a big fan of simple, nutritionally balanced dishes with a lot of flavour, and I often come up with my own variations after trying any number of recipes. I'm not a fan of dinner parties and I don't tend to make anything special for guests unless they have food allergies or pet hates and can't eat what's cooking - home for me is somewhere to hang out rather than 'entertain'.

THE BEST OF SAINSBURY'S ORIENTAL COOKING

By ANON.
SAINSBURY - 1994

Almond Barfi : page 150

Simple but a lot of stirring. Very sweet but not sickly.

Brinjal and Potato Curry : page 108

The recipe is flawed - the aubergine and potato is put in at the same time but the aubergine cooks quicker, which means it is mushy by the time the potatoes are cooked. I'd rather find another recipe than faff with this one.

Chicken Tikka : page 14

Melt-in-the-mouth, cooks quickly under a grill or on a bbq. Recipe does not include any sauces or accompaniments, and it really does need to be served with something else.

Date and Tomato Chutney : page 147

A very good, simple chutney to serve with cold meats or hard cheeses.

Egg Curry with Yogurt : page 31

I enjoy this very much and serve it with Tomato Rice from the same book (pg 127). It's not as nice without it.

Tomato Rice : page 127

Not bad but I prefer it with something than on it's own. So far the only recipe I've found that it works with is Egg Curry with Yogurt from the same book (pg 31).
