Over the holidays my husband insisted that I make Emeril's turnip soup (from the Farm to Fork cookbook) for my in-laws. Unfortunately, the cookbook was home and I was not. But Emeril's website came through with this version -- not identical to the other version -- but still quite tasty. I wasn't able to find the very young turnips that I used in the other version, and I expect that the more mature turnips I used here were responsible for the slightly bitter undertaste of the soup. Nonetheless, both my in-laws and my pre-teen niece pronounced this version to be "awesome."

I was looking for a walnut bread to accompany a nice blue cheese for tonight's dinner. Originally I had planned to make a yeast bread, but ran out of time, so I googled for a walnut quick bread and found this one. It turned out really well -- sweet but not too sweet and the walnut flavor really came through and was perfect with the cheese. I did toast the slices after the bread completely cooled so the texture of the bread was a little firmer, making it easier to spread the cheese.
This will also be good toasted and buttered for breakfast tomorrow morning.
Served with a French turnip/potato/leek soup.
