About me: I love cooking, I love eating, I love discovering new recipes. I have so many cookbooks I sometimes lose track of which recipe is where - though this site helps a bit. I have gone low-carb in 2010, so that's different recipes to explore again. This also means I may not agree with my own reviews anymore if they were written in 2009 or before. ------------------ I have a lovely husband and ten-year old twins who also love eating. ----------------- You can also find me on LibraryThing, BookMooch and EatYourBooks, using the same handle.

Daond Pasha (Meatballs with Pine Nuts and Tomatoes) from The Complete Meze Table

The meatballs were very tasty, but I did not really like putting all the pine nuts together - it made for fussy cooking and I think I would prefer finding a pine nut here and there instead of finding them... read more >

Real Fast Puddings: Over 200 Desserts, Savouries and Sweet Snacks in Under 30 Minutes

By Nigel Slater
Penguin Books Ltd - 1994

Chocolate ginger : page 159

Another one that can hardly be called a recipe, but tastes wonderful. I used 70% chocolate, and that worked very well, as it has the Mascarpone to complement it.

Cinnamon rice : page 142

Of course, rice pudding is very nice with cinnamon, as well. I just prefer his other suggestions.

Lynda Brown's yoghurt custard : page 112

A lovely, slightly tangy custard. Easy to make.

See Rice pudding with Rosewater, Cardamom and Pistachio.

Sweeter than the other rice pudding suggestions in this book - strictly for dessert, not for breakfast or lunch. Lovely color, great taste.

Lovely, lovely, lovely. Scented with rose water and cardamom, sweet but not too sweet, exotic but not too exotic. This is a regular in our house.

We usually make it without pistachios and vanilla.

Saffron rice pudding : page 143

Another lovely suggestion for your rice pudding.

Strawberries with basil : page 174

Very good combination. Unless the strawberries are extremely ripe, it can use some sugar as well (1-3 teaspoons). And balsamic vinegar instead of lemon juice is nice too.

Strawberries with black pepper : page 174

Not really a recipe, but certainly a very good idea.

The twenty-minute rice pudding : page 140

Great rice pudding, and easy. Except it's better if you cook it for 40 minutes, but then it wouldn't fit in this book.

For dessert, but also great as lunch (or breakfast, but then you have to get up really early or eat it cold).

See the suggestions for elaborations on this recipe as well. They add a lot of extra taste and hardly any extra work.
