EDIT: I must add a star (maybe even a star and a half) because this improved with time! The next day I found both the lemon and the strawberry flavors improved. Still dense but I don't mind that. Still going to try with less sugar and perhaps a pinch more salt in the frosting.

These were good and I think I would try them again with a few tweaks. My biggest issue was that they were just too sweet! The cake itself is good, a bit dense but with a nice light lemon flavor. The frosting is also tasty but it's just s little too much of a "good" thing. Perhaps a bit of cream cheese or lemon juice and/or zest in the frosting would help offset the sweetness. I do like the simplicity of this recipe - no need to bring out the mixer and they look beautiful!
Next time I may cut the sugar in the cake as well as tweak the frosting with some lemon juice instead of milk.
