I love these cookies and have made them twice now. They are a huge hit with co-workers! The first time I made them, the cookie parts came out large and lumpy. The second time I made them a little smaller and they came out thin and with just the right amount of crispy edge. The filling is ridiculous - ridiculously good! The only negative is that it is time-consuming, but so worth it.

This homemade version is pretty darn close to an Oreo. Pluses? I can make Oreos at home. Minuses? I now know what is in shelf-stable Oreo filling and I might have been happy to go through life not knowing. I am only able to eat one of these per sitting because they kind of hit me like a rock :)

This recipe was "good" to me (i.e. not the most amazing cookie ever), but is going in my recipe box because it was an instant hit with others. I think it was the "wow" factor of homemade Oreos.

Deb calls for 1 to 1.5 cups of sugar, depending on your sweetness tolerance. I used the full 1.5 cups and didn't find the cookie overly sweet.

I am going to use a pastry bag with a smaller tip for filling next time. I found that the filling is hard to spread around once it's on the cookie (i.e. it doesn't stick to the cookie very well because you are supposed to be able to remove one of the halves like a real Oreo later).

I made these again on Halloween and dyed the filling orange, worked great!
