This is my go-to everyday cookbook. Nothing too complicated or that takes too many ingredients, but always reliable and extensive. Well illustrated and a good reference section. Also well-indexed so that you can find recipes without too much hunting.

This is my #1 go-to book for everyday cooking. Every recipe I've tried has turned out well and the instructions are very clear and concise. It's my most recommended book for people just starting out cooking and I often give it as a house-warming present for young friends.

This is a great reference in the vein of The Joy of Cooking. It covers each food item one at a time followed by some recipes which include it. There is great information for beginners such as how long to bake a potato as well as simple recipes which always work. It is a must have for anyone who loves to cook.
