Cooking at the Natural Cafe in Santa Fe
By Lynn Walters
Crossing Pr - 1992
Everything I have made from this book was flavorful, popular and not really too difficult. I have reviewed some individual recipes also.
Everyday Cooking With Jacques Pepin
By Jacques Pepin
Harpercollins - 1982
I love this book! The recipes range from super difficult to easy, depending on how involved you want to get, but are all hearty home fare. Love the autobiographical touches to go with them. French home cooking from another era, many recipes are from his mother and grandmother. Not what you will find in restaurants! I also like that he arranges menus, so you know what will work well together. There are also step-by-step photos to help you. He also tells you how to serve the leftovers the next day in a way that is equally delicious. There are many techniques to learn here.
Mollie Katzen's Vegetable Heaven: Over 200 Recipes for Uncommon Soups, Tasty Bites, Side Dishes, and Too Many Desserts
By Mollie Katzen
Hyperion - 1997
I watched the show before I bought this companion cookbook. I can hear her encouraging voice as I make the recipes. I like the notes at the beginning, and the conversion table. I also like that most of these recipes will appeal to American palates. My family won't eat asian style vegetables, and I find many vegetarian cookbooks lean heavily Asian or Indian. While there are definitely things to suit everyone here, my family liked what I chose from this book.
Vertamae Cooks in the Americas' Family Kitchen (Americas' Family Kitchen (Television Program).)
By Vertamae Smart-Grosvenor
Kqed Books - 1996
I loved her show, and when I found the book, I was very happy. Southern, African, Caribbean all together in this book. I loved the stories and pictures at the beginning. And there's a nice glossary at the beginning for those of us new to this cuisine, and a mail order index at the back. This book is a good historical reference even if you never make these recipes.
