About me: I collect cookbooks and love to cook and try new recipes. I tested recipes for Leite's Culinaria for almost eight years. I learned to cook from many good southern cooks including my Mom, Dad, several Aunts and my Grandmothers. My children and husband also like to cook and try new foods and recipes. My son still lives with us but our daughter is married. She often visits to cook with me. We are adventuresome eaters willing to try new things.

Bourbon Roasted Pork Loin from Everyday Dorie: The Way I Cook

This was delicious. I know she says in the book not to use the good bourbon but all I had was Woodford Reserve so that's what I used. I marinated for about 8 hours in fridge. Loved the apples and onions... read more >

Breakfast Fried Rice : page 24

Great use for a little left over brown rice. I did add a touch more chili garlic sauce since it tasted a little bland with the tiny amount called for. Nice breakfast.

Creamy Mustard Tossed Green Beans : page 170

Excellent recipe for green beans. Loved the fat free sour cream and grainy mustard dressing for these. I opted to steam them in the microwave and they were ready in less than five minutes.

I really loved these and hubby liked them too. He said he prefers his a bit more cooked though. I liked the tender crisp.

Lemon Poppy Seed Pancakes : page 31

Made these for daughter and I for Easter breakfast. We loved them. Love the idea of using lemon yogurt on top instead of pancake syrup. The recipe says serves three but I only got two servings using the 1/4 cup measure for the pancakes as suggested.

Pigs in Comforters : page 79

The only reason I didn't give this a 5 star is due to the fact I made my own biscuit dough instead of using low fat canned biscuits. I made my dough with low fat butter milk and a little butter. We loved them dipped in a mixture of whole grain and yellow mustard.
