About me: I collect cookbooks and love to cook and try new recipes. I tested recipes for Leite's Culinaria for almost eight years. I learned to cook from many good southern cooks including my Mom, Dad, several Aunts and my Grandmothers. My children and husband also like to cook and try new foods and recipes. My son still lives with us but our daughter is married. She often visits to cook with me. We are adventuresome eaters willing to try new things.

Bourbon Roasted Pork Loin from Everyday Dorie: The Way I Cook

This was delicious. I know she says in the book not to use the good bourbon but all I had was Woodford Reserve so that's what I used. I marinated for about 8 hours in fridge. Loved the apples and onions... read more >

Brussels Sprouts with Cranberries : page 336

I made this as part of our Christmas 2014 supper. Daughter, sister, hubby and I loved it. The balsamic vineger glaze gave this such a nice flavor along with the roasted sprouts and dried cranberries. I would make this one again.

Leftover Thanksgiving Panini : page 292

I used some of my leftover Thanksgiving dark turkey meat for this as well as leftover giblet gravy, stuffing, and cranberry sauce. It was delicious on the sour dough bread with Dijon and Swiss cheese. I grilled mine and daughters since I don't have a panini press. Of course the guys thought it disgusting and wouldn't touch one. A little messy to eat but so delicious. This may become an after Thanksgiving tradition. The recipe is also available on foodnetwork.com at the following link:

Spreads : page 312

I'm not sure why but I really didn't care for these. They sound delciouos but for some reason, not sure why, I just didn't like them that much. I did use dark chocolate for the top since that's what I had on hand but she calls for semisweet. I think I'd like them better if they had some peanut butter in the batter.

Sweet And Savory Bacon Crackers : page 364

These were fantastic. I saw Ree make these on her show recently and knew I had to make them for our Christmas Eve Appetizers. I was a little sceptical about the brown sugar ones but they were my favorite. I enjoyed the Parmesan ones as well. Easy to make and then the wait begins since they take 2 hours in a 250 degree F oven. They're great warm but still quiet wonderful at room temperature. The leftovers were great the next day while preparing our Christmas supper.

You can find this recipe on her site (Parmesan ones)

and on Foodnetwork.com
The brown sugar version is only in the book it looks like.

Turkey Pot Pie : page 289

I bought a huge turkey this year so I'd have lots of leftovers. I used some of the leftover white meat in this recipe. Hubby, daughter and I enjoyed this one. Daughter said she hopes I'll make it again and add peas and mushrooms and hubby said ditto but also some potatoes and a bottom crust. He loves bread. I used a leftover pie crust from Thanksgiving instead of the crust in the book. Ree said that was a good idea as well. The juice was a little runny when I took the pie from the oven but it thickens up nicely as it cools a bit. A great use of leftover turkey but I'm sure it would be good with chicken as well.
