About me: I collect cookbooks and love to cook and try new recipes. I tested recipes for Leite's Culinaria for almost eight years. I learned to cook from many good southern cooks including my Mom, Dad, several Aunts and my Grandmothers. My children and husband also like to cook and try new foods and recipes. My son still lives with us but our daughter is married. She often visits to cook with me. We are adventuresome eaters willing to try new things.

Bourbon Roasted Pork Loin from Everyday Dorie: The Way I Cook

This was delicious. I know she says in the book not to use the good bourbon but all I had was Woodford Reserve so that's what I used. I marinated for about 8 hours in fridge. Loved the apples and onions... read more >

Jamie Deen's Good Food: Cooking Up a Storm with Delicious, Family-Friendly Recipes

Frogmore Stew : page 108

I made this on our Outer Banks Vacation. I did adapt the recipe a bit. I couldn't find live Blue Crabs but did find some steamed, spiced ones. Since they were still warm when I bought them from Buxton Seafood Market it seemed a shame to add them to the pot so we ate them as an appetizer. Since my son loves clams I added a dozen to the pot along with the shrimp, corn, potatoes, and andouille sausage I got from the Weeping Radish Farm and Brewery. The clams, shrimp. cocktail and tarter sauces came from Risky Business Seafood. Lots of other goodies also went into the pot. We dumped the finished dish onto newspapers spread out on the wooden picnic table on the deck of the house we rented and dug in. Delicious!

Old Fashioned Soda Cracker Salad : page 25

This was a very tasty salad. I made a half recipe and had it for my lunch but it would also be great as a side for almost any meal. I couldn't find plum tomatoes so I used grape tomatoes instead.

Oven-Fried Flounder Filets : page 116

Loved this fish. Great flavor from dijon, and cayenne and a nice crunch from the panko and a bit of butter.
