About me: I collect cookbooks and love to cook and try new recipes. I tested recipes for Leite's Culinaria for almost eight years. I learned to cook from many good southern cooks including my Mom, Dad, several Aunts and my Grandmothers. My children and husband also like to cook and try new foods and recipes. My son still lives with us but our daughter is married. She often visits to cook with me. We are adventuresome eaters willing to try new things.

Bourbon Roasted Pork Loin from Everyday Dorie: The Way I Cook

This was delicious. I know she says in the book not to use the good bourbon but all I had was Woodford Reserve so that's what I used. I marinated for about 8 hours in fridge. Loved the apples and onions... read more >

Help With Hamburger : page 120

While this was very good I've made a couple other versions of homemade hamburger helper that we enjoyed more. Quiet a few spices in this one and cheddar cheese. I would eat again.

Marvelous Meat Loaf : page 240

Perfect name for this meatloaf. It's got to be one of the best I've ever had. Loved that it has both pork and beef in it as well as Cheddar and Parmesan cheeses. Then there's several other tasty ingredients and it's topped with some bacon and after baking for 30 minutes a tasty glaze is put on and basted every 15 minutes for 45 more minutes. Can't wait to make some sandwiches with the leftovers. It went great with the Perfect Mashed Potatoes from page 228 and some stir fried savoy cabbage and rolls.

Perfect Mashed Potatoes : page 228

These are named perfectly as they were delicious. Half and half, butter, garlic, sour cream, salt pepper. Yum This was a perfect side for the Marvelous Meat Loaf from page 240

Stuffed Cabbage Without the Roll : page 184

Even though this was in the fall section of the cookbook it was perfect for this cold winter night. So delicious. I used the option of ground beef instead of ground pork. I enjoyed the savoy cabbage. I used half sharp paprika and homemade chicken broth.

Venison Chili from the Land : page 172

I got some venison from my nephews freezer to make this. Lots of ingredients but it's loaded with flavor. A bit spicy just like we like our chili.
