Feast: Food to Celebrate Life
By Nigella Lawson
Hyperion - 2004
I made this for Valentine's Day and everyone loved it. It's like a dense, gooey brownie cake. My cake didn't rise as high as the one in the picture -- perhaps I didn't beat enough at the beginning? It still tasted great. I omitted the liqueur and that didn't seem to detract from the end result. Like the other reviewer, I garnished with plain whipped cream, which definitely helps cut the richness.

Cut-out Cookies : page 266
First, don't tell your toddler you're making cookies until AFTER you've made and chilled the dough. Otherwise, it's just an hour of "Cookies are ready! Cookies are ready!"
Second, I thought it funny that Nigella advises to add a little more flour if the dough is too sticky, as my dough was way too dry and didn't hold together. I assumed that my medium egg wasn't the equal of Nigella's large egg and added another. Then everything came together just fine.
All in all, this is an easy, tasty cookie dough that works great for cutting into shapes. Both the toddler and I enjoyed the results.

Ritzy Chicken Nuggets : page 238
I didn't follow this recipe to a T. I thought it could use a little more flavor in the breading, and I ended up using panko bread crumbs instead of Ritz cracker crumbs.
