This gratin is very simple - parboiled potato slices, slivered kale, olive oil, garlic, and a bit of Parmesan and bread crumbs. I had almost forgotten it was in the oven when slowly the kitchen filled with a wonderful garlic aroma. We enjoyed the crunchy bits, which contrasted nicely with the smoothness of the potato.
One complaint about the recipe - it calls for a bunch of kale, which another reviewer on this site pointed out is a very vague request. It also instructs the cook to "aggressively rub the olive oil on the kale", and I wasn't sure if that meant to bruise the leaves?? I just tossed them well.
I'd also like to point out that this is nearly the same as a potato and kale gratin in The Savory Way, except that the recipe in The Savory Way calls for 1C cream. I'm glad I made this version.
