Recipe Review

14th July 2012

Peckish Sister from Central, FL

A mostly whole wheat sweet breakfast bread with buttermilk, walnuts, raisins and dates, and no oil or fat. It came together rather quidkly, cooked the exacted amount of time specified and looked just like the picture in the book! It was remarkably moist and delicious and what just what I was in the mood for. It made two loaves and I have the leftovers presliced and wrapped for breakfast on the go!

This sounds wonderful! I'm rather fearful of recipes labeled "pioneer" because of the dominant religious culture here, but this is something I know I'd like.

There is an interesting story that comes with the recipe and how it was handed down and that there were some modifications made from the wagon train days. It was a special bread made for Christmas and Thanksgiving. You could change the dired fruits and nuts. It tastes a lot like banana bread without the bananas.

I have added a picture to Pioneer Bread!
