Kateq - thank you so much for reviewing this recipe. I had given up making anything special for St. Paddy's day, but after I saw your review, I discovered an open bottle of stout (local brewery, Epic) that was languishing in our cooler. As promised, one can hardly believe its a recipe with so few ingredients. And you sure wouldn't know it from the flavor. No fats (except what you put on at the end), no eggs, and good flavor jolt from the beer and molasses. I was a bit too over-careful not to over mix, and upon cutting one could see bits of different colors indicating poor incorporation of the flour. But nobody complained. And yes, the butter did make the loaf almost glow!

Even my non-beer-drinking kids really enjoyed this bread. We played a long (4-hour) game of Settlers of Catan, and this bread was much appreciated by all.

Great bread for St. Patrick's Day and beyond! This recipe is so easy and simple I kept checking to see if I missed a step. The last instruction -- to brush the top with soft butter -- is vital. It turns a rather dull-looking brown loaf into a thing of beauty. I'm tempted to add currents next time, but probably should leave excellent alone.
