This recipe essentially makes broccoli with cheese sauce, baked in the oven for 15 minutes with some bread crumbs on top. While the flavor was nice, I think the recipe cheated on the "make ahead" aspect, because you just do all the prep work ahead of time, but you still have to assemble and bake the casserole right before serving.
