Recipe Review

4th September 2011

foodiewife from Monterey, CA

I had fun making these. The only thing I changed was that I used Feta cheese instead of goat cheese. AS hard as I try, I cannot bond with the flavor of goat cheese. It's just too strong a flavor.

Have you tried different types of goat cheese? There are some mild ones and some that are really strong. Welcome to cookbooker, too, this is a nice and friendly community - I feel as if I have many friends here.

Yes, I have tried a lavender goat cheese that was quite good in a salad. I can take goat cheese in very small doses, but it's just not my favorite flavor. Still, I'm willing to try. I'm such a cheese lover, so it disappoints me that goat cheese and my taste buds don't get along well.

What cheeses do you like?

I just discovered a Dill White Cheddar at Costco that is addicting. I love Machengo, Feta, Brie, Fontina, Havarti, Gruyere...heck, just about all of them! I'm a little wary of really "stinky" and very ripe cheeses, though. For cooking, I love to use my microplane to add freshly grated Parmesan or Romano. Oh, and I'm not too wild about sheep's milk cheese-- like Pecorino. What about you?

I'm with you on Manchego! I like very sharp cheddar, not-too-stinky goat, feta, Gruyere, and also most recipes that include gorganzola. Microplanes are amazing, aren't they? And lavendar goat cheese sounds truly lovely. I will look forward to more of your reviews!

Thanks! I'm glad that I discovered this website. I have a food blog, and I use Key Ingredient to store all of my recipes, which downloads into my DEMY digital recipe box. Now, I can use this website to organize and sort my cookbooks and magazines. I'm such a high tech addict!

Wow - that DEMY and key ingredient look great. I will definitely check out your blog. I use a lot of tech at work, and find myself loving the somewhat retro use of books with recipes!

Hi Foodie wife and welcome :-)

I was right there with you on Pecorino until I made some Mario Batali recipe that called for it -- can't recall which one at the moment -- but it was perfect in that pasta.

Love the cheese and wine selection at Costco. Am impressed at your tech savvy. I can't even seem to remember to use the tags here.

LOL, aj! I'm an Admin Assistant, so technology is a part of my daily life. I am trying to cleanup and organize my magazines and cookbooks. I hate it when I want to make a recipe, and I can't remember which issue it's in! This is a great website. I finally got the hang of it!
