| I've made this three times so far and it's great for a warm, easy lunch that both my toddler and preschooler will eat. I'm sure it will fall into heavy rotation this winter.
It's an extremely adaptable recipe--I've used chicken, turkey, and ham; swiss, edam, and fontina. I wasn't crazy about the edam, but will definitely use swiss again. I suggest cutting up the meat in smaller pieces; it will make slicing up the pudding to serve much easier and neater. |

| Oh these were terrible! Very labour intensive with a dumpling that just a little worse than bland. The texture was unfortunate and the "sauce" was simply awful. I wanted to like these, but we ended up throwing them out--something our family *never* does! |
| A ridiculously easy and delicious warm blueberry sauce. The balsamic vinegar seems like a strange addition to me, but it must be the magic ingredient.
We eat this with a white wine cake and whipping cream, although I'm sure it would be heavenly over ice cream or crepes. |
| A hearty, delicious vegetarian stew. It's very adaptable--the only ingredients I measure closely are the spices, and I usually add more beans, squash and corn. The recipe calls for Christmas Lima beans (which I have not been able to find dried in Edmonton) but suggests kidney, pinto, black or Swedish brown beans as alternatives; we use pinto.
It also freezes well so I always put some away for quick lunches. |
| This is a quick and easy chili which is incredibly delicious and nutritious. The quinoa is a great addition and really makes the meal interesting. Good flavour. I don't alter this recipe at all except adding a bit more beans and occasionally corn. Also freezes well, so handy to have for an extra quick meal. |
| I've made this a few times and my husband likes it better than I do. It's good, but not great. That said, I used regular brown lentils instead of French lentils and just doubled the carrots instead of using parsnips, so perhaps I'd prefer if I followed the recipe properly. I liked it better when I used the ginger, but my husband didn't.
It's hearty and feels good for you. Very nutritious and freezes/reheats well. Good for winter/autumn lunches. |
| I LOVE this soup. It's the most beautiful shade of red and incredibly tasty. The main ingredients are beets, carrots, and red lentils, so it is extremely healthy, too. I followed the recipe exactly except I didn't add miso (didn't have any) and I forgot to remove the bay leaves when I pureed the soup. It didn't matter. So very, very good. |
| I didn't have any cardamom, so I skipped it and used walnuts instead of pecans because that's what I had on hand. I found that while the muffins were good warm, as all muffins should be, on the first day the molasses overpowered the taste, but by the second day the flavours melded and became quite tasty.
My preschooler son didn't car for them, but the rest of the family really enjoyed them. |

| My husband makes this and it continues to be an often requested favourite.
He follows the recipe completely and it always works out. When I tried to make it, I cut corners (left out cashews, made it all in one pot) and it wasn't nearly as good. |
| A light tasting, but very delicious lentil stew. It's sweet and filling. I didn't bother with the big list of garnishes and used fresh tomatoes instead of canned crushed and will probably continue to do so. |
