By Christy Jordan
Workman Publishing Company - 2013
All-Purpose Marinade : page 284
I made this for the Tomato-less Beef Stew and it gave it a wonderful flavor. It contains soy sauce, garlic powder, apple cider vinegar and ground ginger. I'm sure it would made a nice marinade for other things as well.

Baked Stuffed Pasta Shells : page 168
I've made several versions of stuffed shells and this one is definitely a winner. I liked the Italian sausage in this one. I used a jarred pasta sauce. The recipe serves eight or you can choose to freeze half and have it for another meal. I choose to make the whole recipe and son had several lunches from the leftovers and we reheated it for another meal later in the week.

Bama Steak and Cheese Sandwiches : page 121
This is Christy's version of a Philly Cheese Steak. I love that it starts with deli roast beef. I used her All Purpose Marinade as an option of part of the sauce. I've used it before in a recipe and it was delicious and gave this sandwich a college education. I didn't use the optional bell pepper since son isn't a fan. We loved these.

Barbecue Beef Sandwiches : page 123
This is the second meal from Two meals in one beef burritos on page 122. I used some Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce that I added to the left over shredded beef chuck. This one was delicious as well. Sent some two nights in a row to my BIL who is in a nursing home and he loved it too.

Barbecue Sauce in a Hurry : page 287
Even though this was good I have tried BBQ sauces I like much better. It is quick and easy though -- catsup and cola.

Basic Beef Gravy : page 285
What a great idea this is. Christy gives you the option to use a Jared beef gravy in several of her recipes or you can make this. I highly recommend making this as it's easy and delicious. If you have flour, butter and beef broth you're good to go.

Basic Chocolate Cake : page 262
This is the cake I made for my daughters birthday for the Cappuccino Cake on page 270. This cake would be a great foundation for many icing options but the Cappuccino one was fantastic.

Beef Patties with Ketchup Gravy : page 10
Hubby and I liked these but son didn't. He doesn't care for meatloaf and said this tasted like meatloaf. I liked that it was made in the slow cooker so I came home to supper almost being done. Just had to make some mashed potatoes and some easy rolls to go with.

Butter Stewed Potatoes : page 204
Once cooked and the butter soaks into the potatoes they are similar to mashed potatoes without mashing. My daughter made these for us for part of our New Year's Day 2015 supper.

Cappuccino Cake : page 270
I made this one for my daughters birthday cake this year per her request. We all loved it. Christy gives you a choice of making her Basic Chocolate Cake on page 262 or using a dark chocolate cake mix for the start of this cake. I chose to make the one on 262 and I'm happy I did. This was moist, chocolaty and delicious and with the Cappuccino icing it was amazing. I had recently bought some chocolate covered espresso beans and was looking for something to use them on and my daughter asked that I put some on top of this cake and it turned out to be a fantastic idea.

Chicken Patties : page 142
My daughter and son have been raving about these so I knew I'd have to try them for son and I. We enjoyed them very much but the poultry seasoning I used was a bit strong with sage so next time I'll cut the amount in half. Daughter later told me she made her own poultry seasoning when she makes these so I may try that.

Chinese Chicken Salad : page 88
This was delicious. It makes a big batch so after eating some for supper the day I made it I divided it into bowls for four work lunches and gave a bowl to my daughter to take home. I put the toasted ramen noodles and almonds in small zip bags to top my salad when I got read to eat at work.

Coca-Cola Pork Chops : page 46
We really didn't care for the taste of these that much. My sauce never got very thick either.

Cream of Mushroom Soup : page 282
I made this for the Easy Stroganoff and it was delicious in it. I would make this just to eat it as well. So good and probably much healthier for you than the one in a can.

Dirty Rice : page 59
This was good but even better warmed up the following day with some cooked cabbage. I did omit the celery and bell pepper since son and hubby don't enjoy. I picked breakfast sausage over hamburger but bet it would also be good with hamburger.

Easy Stroganoff : page 18
This was very good but we thought needed a bit more sauce. Next time I'll make a double recipe of the cream of mushroom soup p 282. We just didn't think it was enough sauce for 16 ounces of noodles but the meatballs was a fun addition to this version of stroganoff.

Four Cheese Macaroni and Cheese : page 166
Excellent mac and cheese. The four cheeses were Velveeta, Cream Cheese, Cheddar and Parmesan. Very creamy and satisfying.

Italian dressing, lime juice and honey make up the marinade for this and it's very tasty. I made mine in my cast iron skillet. Loved the glaze that the marinade makes on the tenders. Son-in-law loved these.

Ground Beef Stew : page 22
This was delicious and so fun to come home to in my slow cooker after a hard day at work. I ate it like soup with crackers in it as did my son but hubby requested cornbread. I love the addition of Spicy V8 in this along with the beef broth, ground beef and veggies. I will be making this one again. Perfect for a cold night and great reheated the next day.

House Autry Pork Chops : page 41
I would have never thought to use House Autry onion hushpuppy mix as a breader but it was fantastic on these pork chops. I can see also using on tenderized steaks since I like onions on those anyway. Hubby and son liked these as much as I did.

Italian Beef Sandwiches : page 123
This is another one for the slow cooker. I got several beef chuck roasts on sale recently and put them in my freezer and I'm sure happy I did. I put this one in my slow cooker before leaving for work then when I got home all I had to do was shred it up add the other ingredients and stir fry my peppers and onions to top the sandwiches. Very good.

Meatball Subs : page 17
I made these with the meatballs from page 16. We used store bought spaghetti sauce and toasted them so the mozzarella cheese would melt nicely.

Meatballs and their many uses : page 16
These were very good meatballs. I actually like the ones I usually make a bit better but these were ones I wouldn't mind eating either. I made a half recipe which made almost 50 meatballs. I used some in the Strognoff recipe from this book and froze some for spaghetti and meatballs and meatball subs which I haven't made yet.

Not Your Averge Joe Sloppy Joes : page 132
While these were quiet good they were a little on the sweet side. Next time I'll cut the 1/4 cup brown sugar to a tablespoon or two and the sweet pickle relish from 3 tablespoons to 2. I liked the addition of cheddar cheese stirred into the finished Joes.

Old Fashioned Sticky Chicken : page 70
This is a very good recipe. I used chicken legs which is what was called for in the recipe. Quick and easy to throw together. Christy suggests you serve it over rice and says it's also good with mashed potatoes. Son and I ate it over brown rice and I had green beans with mine and he had a bowl of grape tomatoes.

Oven-Barbecued Chicken : page 87
This was a quick and easy week night meal. It was good but didn't have as much flavor as I would have liked. I used the Quick BBQ sauce recipe from the book page 287. I think I would have liked it better with another sauce, still good though.

Pizza Casserole : page 149
Dex said ok on this one I thought even better after reheating. Quick and easy supper.

Pizza Rolls : page 125
This one was so simple but my guys loved them. It's ground beef and pizza sauce simmered for about 10 minutes after browning the meat. Then you split sub rolls and add the meat and top with mozzarella cheese. I melted the cheese in the oven on broil for a few minutes sliced some cucumbers and added them to our plates along with some grape tomatoes and supper was served.

Before heading to work this morning I put a small pork butt in my crock pot. When I got home all I had to do was shred it and make the sauce, toast some buns and supper was done. Delicious!

Simple Fruit Crisp : page 233
This one was easy to throw together and you end up with a nice dessert. I used the option of fresh fruit and used Pink Lady Apples. You can also used canned fruit and other fresh fruits. The topping was a delicious mix of flour, butter, oatmeal, cinnamon and brown sugar. My family enjoyed it very much.

Simple Marinara Sauce : page 284
This is easy quick and delicious. I didn't use the 1/2 pound of ground beef called for since I didn't have any on hand but it was delicious without it and with the meatballs from page 16. I will definitely be making this one again.

Spaghetti and meatballs : page 17
I used the frozen meatballs from page 16 and the Simple Marinara Sauce page 284 for this recipe as well as thin spaghetti. Delicious quick and simple supper.

Spicy Fried Chicken : page 80
We loved this one. It did have a nice kick from the cayenne pepper. It was crispy on the outside and moist inside. Daughter, son and I dipped them in ranch dressing, son in law in a catsup mustard mixture.

Steak Tips over Rice : page 28
I like that this is made in the slow cooker. I cut up chuck roast into bite sized pieces the night before and put in my cooker insert along with the homemade beef gravy (also from this book). The next morning all I had to do was turn it on. Instead of rice I served it over mashed potatoes since my guys like that better. So tender and delicious and all I did was make a salad and cook my potatoes when I got home from work.

Texas Straw Hat : page 35
My son and I really enjoyed this one. When I read him the recipe and it said you've essentially just made yourself a frito chili pie he said I don't think I like frito pies but he sure enjoyed this one. I did add a bit more chili powder than called for and my son ate some sour cream on his. Great fast easy weeknight supper for sure.

Tomato-less Beef Stew : page 30
I made this for the guys for my daughter's birthday supper. My son in law gave me a high thumbs up for this one and said I could make it again anytime for him. He said it was almost as good as his grandma's which was his favorite. She passed away just this year and he said now he knows which one he wants to eat when he is craving her stew. I cut up a beef chuck roast for the stew meat. The all-purpose marinade page 284 and Italian seasoning give this stew a great flavor. The veggies called for are carrots and potatoes. My son-in-law also said this tasted so much like his Grandmas but her's had green beans in it too so next time I'll add a few for him.

Two-Meals-In-One Beef Burritos : page 122
This was excellent. I couldn't find a 4 to 5 pound chuck roast so I bought two smaller ones to add to a little over 5 pounds. We loved the burritos and I'll post the review of the 2nd meal BBQ Beef after this one since it's a separate recipe using up the other of the beef. Christy gives you two options of how to cook either in a slow cooker or Dutch and I chose my cast iron Dutch oven. After cooking you shred all the meat and divide it in half (since I had two roasts I shredded one at a time and used one for each meal.) you put half back in the pot and add the burrito seasonings. The other half is placed in the fridge to add some BBQ sauce to for another meal.
