About me: I love cooking, I love eating, I love discovering new recipes. I have so many cookbooks I sometimes lose track of which recipe is where - though this site helps a bit. I have gone low-carb in 2010, so that's different recipes to explore again. This also means I may not agree with my own reviews anymore if they were written in 2009 or before. ------------------ I have a lovely husband and ten-year old twins who also love eating. ----------------- You can also find me on LibraryThing, BookMooch and EatYourBooks, using the same handle.

Daond Pasha (Meatballs with Pine Nuts and Tomatoes) from The Complete Meze Table

The meatballs were very tasty, but I did not really like putting all the pine nuts together - it made for fussy cooking and I think I would prefer finding a pine nut here and there instead of finding them... read more >

The Moosewood Cookbook

By Mollie Katzen
Ten Speed Press - 1977

Green mayo : page 46

I made this with parsley, and while it was a very pretty pale green color, it did not really taste different from normal mayonnaise.

It is not necessary to chop the herbs very fine, as the blender will chop them as well.

I will try the chives version as well, and some other green herbs. The basil version had a quite distinctive taste, and the same lovely color.

Satyamma's Famous Cauliflower Curry : page 136

I substituted cashews for peanuts and coconut milk for coconut, because that is what I had. I also fried the cauliflower with the onions because I prefer it baked not boiled. I also put in half a lime instead of the lemon as I think that goes better with coconut.
The result was a very nice curry, quite mild. It could have done with a bit less salt, though.

Sesame mayo : page 46

Don't make this if you're watching your fat intake. Slightly smoky, slightly nutty: Adding sesame oil to home-made mayonnaise is a stroke of genius that transforms the mayonnaise from just good homemade mayonnaise to eat-straight-from-the-jar delicious.

I prefer this one with lemon juice instead of vinegar, although I might try it with rice vinegar some time. Other neutral oils can be used instead of safflower.
