Aromas of Aleppo: The Legendary Cuisine of Syrian Jews
By Poopa Dweck, Michael J. Cohen, Quentin Bacon
Ecco - 2007
This is a big, beautifully photographed book that gives you a glimpse of the culture and the personal history of the family. Richly detailed, a worthwhile addition to anyone interested in the cuisine, history and culture of syrian/american jews.
Baking
By James Peterson
Ten Speed Press - 2009
There are several editorial mistakes in this book. I tried to contact the publisher and the author re a site I could check for corrections. It is 2 months later and no response. I have since found out on other sites that a number of people have the same complaint. It is disconcerting not to have faith in the amounts for ingredients listed in recipes. Two recipes I have looked at have no mention of ingredients in the recipe that corresponding steps in pictures make mention of.
Sara Foster's Casual Cooking: More Fresh Simple Recipes from Foster's Market
By Sara Foster, Carolynn CarreƱo
Clarkson Potter - 2007
This is an excellent cookbook for what it is intended-casual cooking from market products. I have been cooking from it for a couple of years and highly recommend it for everyday cooking with fresh big flavors.
The Scandinavian Cookbook
By Trina Hahnemann
Andrews McMeel Publishing - 2009
This is one of my favourite cookbooks. The photography inspires me to cook, and explore the cuisine and culture.
Technically it could be improved with more details in the instructions of some recipes. That shouldn't be a problem with more experienced cooks. The overall feel and organization of the book compensates.
I have tried many recipes and am happy with the results.
