About me: I collect cookbooks and love to cook and try new recipes. I tested recipes for Leite's Culinaria for almost eight years. I learned to cook from many good southern cooks including my Mom, Dad, several Aunts and my Grandmothers. My children and husband also like to cook and try new foods and recipes. My son still lives with us but our daughter is married. She often visits to cook with me. We are adventuresome eaters willing to try new things.

Bourbon Roasted Pork Loin from Everyday Dorie: The Way I Cook

This was delicious. I know she says in the book not to use the good bourbon but all I had was Woodford Reserve so that's what I used. I marinated for about 8 hours in fridge. Loved the apples and onions... read more >

Cooking with Paula Deen

Beef Stroganoff Soup : page 56

We had a little cooler weather right after fall started and I decided to make this since we love beef stroganoff. It was delicious. I cut my roast up the night before and put it in a zip lock bag. The next day when I got home from work I added some flour and seasonings to the bag and shook to coat as suggested and finished up the recipe and let it cook while I did some other things. I then added the noodles (I used my favorite frozen egg noodles), let that cook until the noodles were done and added the sour cream and Dijon. We really enjoyed this one and I plan on making it again when the weather turns cold again.

Easy Parmesan Pastry Wrapped Dogs : page 47

The whole family enjoyed this interesting twist on pigs in a blanket. The puff pastry and parmesan added a nice touch. I used Bacon hot dogs instead of all beef. We even enjoyed the dipping sauce which was made of sour cream, whole grain mustard, parsley and smoked paprika.

Honey Vinaigrette : page 41

This was a great dressing for the Pear Salad on the same page but I think it would also be great on a green salad. It has white balsamic, honey, salt, pepper and olive oil simple but tasty.

I made a half recipe for my daughter and I for her birthday and we loved it. It was so pretty on the plate too with the arugula, red and green pears, walnuts and blue cheese crumbles. The dressing was a little on the tart side and so good with the other ingredients.

Quick Pickled Onions : page 28

These were excellent on the Roast Beef sandwiches from the same page but were also good on my salad the next day. I did make them the night before so they would be pickled since it said 4 hours or overnight. I liked that it was made with white wine vinegar.

Toasted Roast Beef on Rye : page 28

We really enjoyed these sandwiches. I couldn't fin the pumpernickle-rye swirl bread so we used just pumpernickle instead. The quick pickled onions were great on this with the roast beef and provolone cheese and white bbq sauce, which we hadn't tried before. We also loved that the sandwiches were grilled.
