The Bread Baker's Apprentice: Mastering the Art of Extraordinary Bread
By Peter Reinhart, Ron Manville
Ten Speed Press - 2001
These were absolutely incredible. Although I can't seem to make them without setting off my smoke alarm, they are completely worth it. I made poppy seed, sesame seed, and salt bagels. Using an egg wash to stick the toppings on helped. I also used 2.5oz pieces of dough for each bagel, so they were a more manageable final size.

The Craft of Baking: Cakes, Cookies, and Other Sweets with Ideas for Inventing Your Own
By Karen DeMasco, Mindy Fox
Clarkson Potter - 2009
This yellow cake is incredibly delicious - definitely 5 stars for the cake. It's fairly intensive (separating 7 eggs, whipping whites separately, etc.), but completely worth it, and this has become my go-to yellow cake recipe. The final product is delicious and moist, not too dense, but solid enough to hold up to frosting without falling apart.
The frosting was not quite sweet enough for my taste, and was a bit on the buttery side. Next time I think I'll try it with a bit more sugar. It looked like a complete failure for a long time while I was making it, but I just kept whipping it and eventually it came around to the texture a frosting should be.

First real ice cream recipe I ever attempted, and it was quite possibly the best chocolate ice cream I've ever had. Delicious!
