Vanilla Ice Cream /The Only Ice Cream Recipe You'll Ever Need from The New York Times

This is an ice cream base recipe - I made the vanilla version. I only had 5 yolks and found it plenty rich and certainly delicious! I don't think it would suffer if you wanted to sub a little of the heavy... read more >

Best Damn Borracho Beans

Terrific pot of beans! The quick soak method used here was very successful and produced tender beans in a fraction of the time. The broth was very tasty and I made sure not to cook too much off since it was so, so good. I did first saute my peppers, onions, and garlic along with 4 small oven roasted tomatoes before adding broth and beans and cooking for about 3 hours.

Garlic Lime Soup

I enjoyed this on it's own (as written) but it could certainly benefit from some shredded chicken, beans, avocado or other veg. I did add a sprinkle of cayenne.

Sourdough Focaccia

This focaccia has excellent texture and comes together nicely. I did not need the full amount of flour, so certainly follow the authors advice and add only 1/2 cup at a time. I ended up using about 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 cups flour. Topped with salt, pepper and herbs and baked for 14 minutes at 450 (until top was golden), then turned the oven to 400 for 8-10 minutes. Makes great sandwiches and wonderful use for (lively) starter discard.

This is a quick, simple sauce you can throw together for rice, dumplings or vegetables. I often use it as a starting off point for something a little more complex, usually including garlic, ginger, sesame seeds and sometimes miso, but the original will add flavor to whatever needs to be dipped. You can also reduce it over low heat to make a thicker sauce.
