Moosewood Restaurant Cooks at Home: Fast and Easy Recipes for Any Day
By Moosewood Collective
Simon & Schuster - 1994
Avocado Corn Salad : page 119
This is billed as a main-dish salad. I usually serve it as a first course. Very good. (Can add a can of black beans, warmed with the corn.)

Broccoli and Carrots with Lime Dressing : page 73
This is good to serve with oriental-themed meals.

Carrot and Parsley Salad : page 65
Good! is all I've written on several remakes of this.

Cauliflower Paprikash : page 203
The book's spine is broken at this page. The paprikash is good, but this is where we learned to love spaetzle.

Chesapeake Catfish : page 249
This recipe is a good idea, but there is way too much Old Bay seasoning used. I thought about 1tsp per fillet would be fine.

Chick Pea and Artichoke Heart Stew : page 204
Pretty good stuff. Takes more like 45min to make
- Had chicken stock needing to be used, so I used that instead of water or vegetable stock.
- Used smoked paprika instead of sweet.
- Used a jar of bio (i.e. organic) baby food, puréed sweet potatoes, not Nestlé.
Makes 4 servings for a main.

Coffee Ricotta Mousse : page 307
This is the recipe I turn when I've got some leftover ricotta to use up. It is *very* rich, but very tasty. Nowadays I usually make a half recipe of this with 2 tablespoons of cocoa instead of the coffee granules and Kahlua instead of the brandy. Yum.

Curried Fried Rice : page 226
We liked this a lot. Very easy and versatile.
- I made a whole recipe (should serve 4); we ate it all. Admittedly it might have served 3, but 4 as a main would be a real stretch.
- I accidentally used 2tbl of (red) curry paste rather than 1tbl. That was a good. A smidge more might be ok eeven.
- The spinach amount has to be wrong. I had a 100g package of young spinach leaves; that's 3.5oz, less that what's asked, but way more than "generous handful". I used the whole package. While it seemed like a lot going it, it was a good amount in the dsh.
Altogether tasty and satisfying.

Fried Rice : page 230
This is a good basic fried rice recipe. Of course there are zillions or variations possible, but I often look at this page just to get started when I have a fried rice urge.

Moosewood Fudge Brownies : page 317
Good! is my only comment in the book.

Not Your Mother's Green Beans : page 82
My notes say to halve the quantiy of pine nuts. Otherwise, this is a great recipe. The beans can be served warm, or cold over a bit of salad.

Peach Parfait with Amaretto Cream : page 318
A very pretty, easy dessert. Looks impressive for company. I've done the same thing with strawberries using another cookie for the crumble and another liqueur for the taste, although I neglected to note what it was (rum? galliano? ???).

Sautéed Bananas : page 320
Very good. Very easy.

Shredded Zucchini : page 87
One of my favorite ways to do zucchini. Even my non-zucchini-liking husband likes this. There are lots of variations to make it Italian, Greek, Indian, etc.

Six-Minute Chocolate Cake : page 322
Well, what do you expect from a cake that you throw together in 6 minutes (excluding oven preheat time)? It's not great but good enough.

Spaghetti with Zucchini and Lemon : page 195
We've had this many times and always like it.

Spicy Cajun Shrimp : page 255
I used to make this on shopping night, after coming home with the shrimp. A really tasty dinner, over rice.

Tropical Fruit Salad : page 324
Dessert or side, the ginger/honey/lime juice dressing is an adult way to dress up a fruit salad. Nice if you can get tropical fruits, but also good with apples or pears added.
